改编自史提芬京 (Stephen King) 畅销小说人物的 The Dead Zone 是一套集动作、浪漫、超自然及冒险于一身的心理学恐怖片集。 Johnny Smith (Anthony Michael Hall 饰演) 于小镇中过着平凡的生活，本身是自然科学教师的他喜欢向学生们展示出大自然的奥秘，在他身边的除了他深爱的未婚妻 Sarah (Nicole de Boer 饰演) 之外，还有以他引以为荣的母亲。Johnny 本拥有着几乎完美的生活，直至某天他发生车祸，使他一直昏迷不醒为止。 六年后，Johnny 终于恢复知觉及清醒，但他所认知的世界已变得面目全非。除了他的母亲已过身外，他的未婚妻 Sarah 亦下嫁了另一人且生了小孩。但这些事以他来说还不是太重要，因为他竟发现自已拥有一种惊人的 超自然力量，只要他接触到其它人或对象时便会发生。在离开医院之前，他p凭着超自然的幻觉得知其护士之女儿正身处险境，从而能够及时把她的女儿救出。 现在，Johnny 除了尝试适应昏迷六年后的生活外，还需要把不知道是福是祸的超自然力量弄走，继续以普通人的姿态生活。帮助 Johnny 恢服体能的物理治疗师 Bruce (John L. Adams 饰演) 由医院相识后因了解得太多而渐渐变成他的好友；而他母亲的牧师 Gene Purdy (David Ogden Stiers 饰演) 则为了他建立了一笔基金，待他有需要时便可使用；另外，Sarah 亦尝试一方面与 Johnny 保持关系，另一方面不影响与她丈夫 (Chris Bruno 饰演) 与及儿子的关系。 本剧集由 Star Trek 系列编剧 Michael Piller 及其子 Shawn Piller 制作，于2002年6月16日在 USA Network 首播，并创下六千四百万的收视纪录，同时亦打破基本有线电视节目首播的收视纪录。
