一戏之间》（Episodes）完全是为原《老友记》（Friends）核心演员Matt LeBlanc一个人开发的新剧，他的个人魅力将直接决定这部剧集的生死。在这部剧集中，他将扮演他自己。夫妻编剧组合Sean（Tamsin Greig扮演）和Beverly（Stephe n Mangan扮演）开发了一部反映高级寄宿学校校长和学生之间的故事，在英国播出后大获成功。他们决定将这部剧集搬到好莱坞，但好莱坞有个不成文的规矩：凡是外来文化必须经过「改造」实现「本土化」。好莱坞素有「乱改剧本」的恶名，这次也不例外－－他们不仅将这部引得无数英国人发笑的知识性和趣味性并重的优秀剧集改成纯粹的「好莱坞样板戏」，还请来Sean和Beverly夫妇很讨厌的喜剧演员Matt LeBlanc担任主角。更要命的是，Matt LeBlanc的到来彻底搅乱了Sean和Beverly的生活，甚至让他们本来十分牢固的婚姻出现裂痕。Matt LeBlanc在访谈中告诉记者：「我的经纪人告诉我，这部剧集是反映你的，你应该去试试。我去了，结果发现试镜准备室里一堆演员打扮成我的模样，穿着我最常穿的衣服，口里念叨着我在《老友记》里最有名的台词（How you doin）。我感觉非常滑稽。更滑稽的是，人事导演竟然说我并不是参与试镜的演员中最出色。嘿！别人扮演我比我扮演我还要出色？
