剧讲述了历经四代的韩国移民家庭的故事。故事始于一段禁忌的爱恋，并扩展为跨越韩国、日本与美国三地，关于希望与梦想、和平、爱与失落、胜利与算计的史诗传奇。 从朝鲜到日本，四代移民家庭的恩怨纠葛，大时代的巨光照在每一个小人物的身上，都留下了一道崎岖的阴影，生生地拖着他们的躯体前行。从1920年日本殖民时期的韩国渔村，到日本大阪，经历了二战和朝鲜战争，一直到90年代末日本泡沫经济时代的横滨和东京乃至纽约。在这样复杂的历史背景下，全剧着重描绘了几代人在家族与故乡、融入与归属、金钱与信仰等一系列问题上的关系与矛盾。
