《真爱如血》（True Blood）改编自Charlaine Harris的小说《南方吸血鬼》（Southern Vampire）。这部尺度大胆、引人恐惧的新剧由《六英尺下》（Six Feet Under）的创造者Alan Ball打造，是其返回HBO的新作。难产三年，终于破茧。《真爱如血》深入探讨了小说家Charlaine Harris精雕细琢构架的世界，被艾美奖赢家Ball描述为“聪明人的爆米花”。并且演员阵容强大，重点刻画各种与当地格格不入的人。《真爱如血》保证让观者心跳加速。 故事发生在路易斯安那州的一个小镇——Bon Temp。由于日本人发明的一种叫做“真血”（TruBlood）的人造合成血，吸血鬼们可以通过购买的方式获得血液来维生，一夜之间从传说中的怪物摇身变成了普通市民。虽然人类不再是吸血鬼的盘中餐，理论上两者能够和平共处共同生活，但是对于这些“走出棺材”的 生物的理解仍有待加强。宗教领袖和政府官员选择了他们的立场，但是在Bon Temp小镇，审判还未开始。 Sookie Stackhouse（Anna Paquin扮演）是个会读心术的酒吧女招待，深知被社会驱逐的感觉。由于吸血鬼没有可以让她窥视的脑电波，她乐意与他们打交道，尤其是173岁英俊的 Bill Comton（Stephen Moyer扮演）。可是当Sookie卷入跟随Bill到来的一系列神秘事件的时候，容忍将被迫受到检验。 当吸血鬼走出棺材，走出与人类对立的生存夹缝，走出生物链顶端的孤独诅咒，我们的世界，还会是原来的那个世界么？
