本剧改编自由 Robert Popper 创作的Channel 4喜剧《星期五晚餐》，它于 2011 年至 2020 年，持续在ChanneI4 制播了六季；并且也曾多次获得英国电视学院奖的提名表彰。 2021 年，由于在剧中饰演父亲 Martln ”的演员Paul Ritter的去世，剧集宣布完结，不再制作新季。 以生活在伦敦北部的世俗犹太家庭 Goodman 一家每周五的安息日晚餐作为背景，母亲 “Jackie”和父亲“Martin”会与两名儿子“Adam”以及“Jonny ”进餐所进行的有趣谈话、好笑互动以及前来拜访的友人作为每集的设置；美版也将延续单镜头喜剧的调性，相同的四人家庭角色关系．讲述两代人之间尴尬、好笑的经历。 本剧一直是美版青睐的改编IP，各种不同的尝试已经有十年之久：最早NBC 与 《办公室》的 Greg oaniels 合作，找到了 《极品老妈》 的 Allison Janney 与 《了不起的麦瑟尔夫人》 Tony Shalhoub 出演，但最终在完成试映集后，没有获得放行；而 2014 年、 2016 年， CBS 两次尝试将它进行开发，但都没有更多下文。 《生活点滴》“Tim”Dan Bakkedahl将在剧中饰演父亲“Harvey Langer”，他是一名郊区牙医，试图通过穿着鲜艳的夏威夷衬衫以及在一个名为「Spin Dentists」的车库乐队演奏来抵御自己的中年危机。渴望获得关注的Harvey找到了一个方法，好让每个星期五晚上都与他有关。 《随性所欲》“Valerie” Michaela Watkins Michaela饰演“Jane Langer”，她日前刚刚从自己工作了二十五年的教师工作离开，正在寻求自己的人生第二幕；而在帮助自己总是求爱受阻的儿子“David”找伴侣的这件事上，Jane有些用力过度。
