年轻的勒内·马格里特应邀参加了在英国一座奢华庄园举办的私人艺术展，他的生活从此发生了改变，而这座庄园的主人正是爱卖弄的詹姆斯勋爵。1936年，超现实主义在艺术界逐渐兴起。同行的客人包括萨尔瓦多·达利、李·米勒、曼·雷和马克斯·恩斯特，他们都是即将享誉全球的艺术家。但在一个狂欢之夜后，马格里特醒来发现自己躺在一具年轻女子的尸体旁，并且对前一晚发生的事毫无记忆。随着越来越多的尸体出现，苏格兰场赶来封锁了庄园，马格里特必须揭开真相，还自己一个清白。一切真的是表面上看起来的那样吗？
