Ten days took King John from ruler of an empire to sudden death, and left the kingdom in ruins. John is famous for the creation of Magna Carta, which inspired our modern democracy. Ben follows in the footsteps of the King's epic last journey, from the treacherous marshes of East Anglia, through Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, to his final resting place in Worcester. He is joined by medieval historian professor Stephen Church. Together they examine the truth behind the legend that has lived on for 800 years. Nightwatching已经是比较容易明白的了, 相比起A Life in Suitcases和一系列的The Tulse Luper Suitcases. 近年多放时间在舞台上的Peter Greenaway, 电影集中描写Rembrandt及他创作油画The Night Watching的过程, 美不胜收, 拍摄手法完美得令人醉倒. 这回又是Rembrandt, 怎可错过 Rembrandt's J'Accuse属essayistic documentary, 即剧情纪录片. 又一次被对导演杀个措手不及. 有观众离场(好像他的电影总是这样, 有人会钓鱼, 有人顶唔住... ), 虽然没想过此片会是这个形式, 但又是十个惊喜, 不少啼笑皆非的地方. 导演这回对油画The Night Watch来个地毯式搜查, 幽默又批判地评论现今视觉艺术知识的无知. 油画上三十四个人物差不多都被细致地分析、研究. 人物的高度, 背景, 手, 甚至身体器官都细谈一番, 某程度上甚具娱乐性. 配乐和他的其他作品一样, 依然震撼. 这回由作曲家Giovanni Sollima及Marco Robino负责. 第一次在银幕上多次见到Peter Greenaway以教授式解说. 很值得一看.
